For a discussion about war reporting, VII photographer Ashley Gilbertson will speak with VICE’s Rocco Castoro about his book Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, hosted by the Brooklyn Brewery.
Gilbertson’s book is a collection of images taken over the course of four years in Iraq. The book charts path of Iraq from the post-invasion excitement to the extreme violence that later occurred in the country.
The event will begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are required to attend and include a free Brooklyn Brewery beer. All proceeds from the events in this series benefit RISC (Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues

Bronx Documentary Center is pleased to partner with VII and Think Outside the Cell Foundation to present THE LONG SHADOW OF INCARCERATION’S STIGMA
A documentary short film produced by VII photographers Ashley Gilbertson, Ed Kashi, Ron Haviv and Jessica Dimmock.

About the Film
A staggering 700,000 people are released from prison in the United States each year. When formerly incarcerated persons reenter society they often face discrimination when applying for employment, housing and higher education. Some formerly incarcerated people and are even denied the right to vote. What are the struggles? What are the stories? Who are these people? And how are they helping each other to succeed and thrive?
A panel discussion will follow the screening with:

What are the ethical responsibilities of a photojournalist who chooses to cover conflict? Can he or she be truly neutral, or do they have a responsibility to reflect the moral and political imbalances of the situations they report on?

The panel will explore the ethical pressures on photojournalists in conflict and will consider their accountability for the positions they take and the pictures they make, how they make them, where they place the work and the voice they attach to it. The discussion will consider the responsibilities and consequences, intended and otherwise, of reporting on conflict.
